Often summer is represented in enthusiastic tones; a late night party, a beach trip, warm beer, afternoon sun.

There is, however, another experience of summer-solemnity and stillness in the summertime.

In places where the heat is dangerous, the summer can be a kind of hibernatory season like the winters of the north. In the peak heat things can grow desolate and eerie, a haunting sets in and the edges start to decay. There is even darkness in full sun.
